How to Install The Carbon Fiber Rally Wing on Subaru Hatchback WRX STI
This DIY guide will help you with the installation of the VR Aero Carbon Fiber Rally Wing for the 2008-2014 Subaru WRX & STI Hatchback.
Tools Required:
- 10MM Deep Socket
- 3″ or 4″ Extension
- Small Flat Head Screwdriver
- Phillip Screw Driver
Other:
- 3M Double Sided Tape
- Friend to assist
Step #1:

Step #2:
In order to access the hardware that secures the factory wing we will need to remove the plastic panels located on the inside of the rear hatch. Open the rear hatch and begin by carefully removing the three plastic interior panels located on the rear hatch. Start with the panel on the center and then remove the outer two side panels. They are held on by plastic clips and do not require much force to remove.
Step #3:
Now that we have the interior panels removed we can now access the third brake light wires and rear window washer lines, which will need to be disconnected. Using a small flat head screwdriver to assist, undo the third brake light wire connector.
Step #4:
Locate the rear window washer fluid hose coupler and pull to separate the lines from each other.
Step #5:
Next we will be removing the (4) 10MM bolts/nuts that secure the wing to the hatch. Even though the wing will still be attached with plastic clips it’s best to have a friend hold the wing in place just in case.
Step #6:
Once all the hardware is removed you can now softly close the rear hatch and lift up to remove the factory wing. Its best if you have a friend that can help you lift on each side. Lift up carefully to free from the plastic clips. As you are lifting the wing off, you will need to remove the rubber grommet securing the window washer fluid hose and third brake light wire. At this point the wing will be completely free from the vehicle.
Step #7:
Now that the factory wing is removed from the hatch of the subaru we will need to remove the third brake light and window washer fluid nozzle so that we can swap them over to the new VR Aero Carbon Fiber Rally Wing. Lay the wing on towel or something soft to avoid damaging the paint. Use a small flat screw driver to lift up and remove the plastic clips that cover the phillip head screws securing the third brake light to the wing.
Step #8:
Locate the wire connectors and unplug the the third brake light. Once unplugged you can now remove it from the factory wing.
Step #9:
Remove the the cap that holds the rear window washer nozzle. Use a flat head screw driver to carefully lift up and free it. Once it is free undo the hose separate the nozzle from the cap. We will be reusing only the black nozzle in the VR Aero Carbon Fiber Rally Wing.
Step #10
Apply 3M double sided tape around the areas where the VR Aero Rally Wing will be contacting the hatch. This will secure the wing to the vehicle.
Step #11
Now you can transfer the third brake light and washer nozzle over to the VR Aero Wing and reverse the to previous steps for installation.Β If you have any questions or need further assistance please call 480-921-7422 or email Sales@vividracing.com
Enjoy your VR Aero Carbon Fiber Rally Wing!
Is the only thing holding the wing on double-sided tape??
No the bolts shown during step #5 are reused to attach the wing. The 3M Double sided tape is used to secure the sides of the wing to car and provide extra support.
Does this wing allow full function of the hatch or does it limit the opening height like wing risers do?
Yes full function of the hatch is retained.
What wheels are on the car in the instructions?
Jack, The wheels on the car are the SSR GTV02. They are available at Vivid Racing 1-480-966-3040 or email Sales@Vividracing.com
Does the wing hold up during highway/ fast driving. Is there any vibrations or additional noise compared to stock wing?
Robert, We have never had any complaints from our customer’s that have this wing on their vehicle.
If I was to order this wing when would it ship to me, are they still on back order or do you have them in stock?
One of the sales guys will touch base.
Would this fit 2014 Subaru crosstrek?
Can y’all supply new bolts and nuts?
Email us Sales@Agency-Power.com
Are these still on backorder? Can we order just parts of the wing or do you only sell the wing as a whole?
These are available currently Rich!
Is there any plans in the works to offer this without the CF wing and only fiberglass like the rest of the wing?
Currently no plans to introduce without the carbon fiber.
Far fetched but could this fit 2004 wrx wagon?
This wing does not fit on the wrx wagon only hatchback.
it fit on subaru impreza hatchback 2010 ?!
We have not tested it on the impreza’s, only the WRX and STI hatch. It may need modification in order to fit.
hi there,im looking for the wrc spoiler,do you have?
Sure thing! Email sales@agency-power.com for pricing and shipping.
Hi can I install it on the 2020 impreza hatchback?
Thank you for the interest. The Carbon Fiber Rally Wing will only fit 2008-2014 models. If we receive enough interest, we may develop a similar wing for later model years.
hi,
i would like to know if this rally wing would fit on an impreza 2018 wagon ….ty
How’s it going? Unfortunately, this wing only fits 2008-2014 WRX/STI hatchback. Many people have fit them on other vehicles but it will take lots of custom fiberglass work.
Is this wing permanently discontinued?
Currently, it is on backorder. It will be brought back as a Vivid Racing product in the near future.
Is this still on back order?
Unfortunately, we no longer sell the Rally Wing. It has since been labeled as a Vivid Racing product. If you would like to contact them for an ETA you can email sales@vividracing.com or call 1-480-966-3040
would this fit on a 2018 Impreza hatch?
Unfortunately, this only fits 2008-2014 models
I have a question got this wing about a year ago, now I do a lot of daily driving with it in downtown Toronto. I know unfortunate. Any solution for a lot of shaking and going over bumps and such. Just starting to notice a little cracking on the body of the wing βstress marksβ
To help alleviate those stress cracks forming, you can always try to isolate the deck and uprights with rubber. The cracks are forming because the pieces are rigid with each other so adding rubber will help get rid of some of the vibrations. Hope this answers your question!
Can I have this wing for Crosstrek 2014?
It looks like the Impreza hatch and Crosstrek hatch are slightly different shapes so the wing will not fit properly. Sorry about that.
