Behind the Scenes at Agency Power
At Agency Power we take pride in our R&D (research and development) division, located in Arizona. The R&D division is full of innovators and engineers who want to come up with the latest aftermarket creation. We thought it would be cool to give you a behind the scenes look of where the products you love come from and the process we go through to get you the most cutting edge parts available in the industry.
We start by deciding, what the benefit of the new product would be? Would it be cost effective? Would it be an aesthetic improvement to the car, or is it going to improve the overall safety of the car? These are the deciding factors we ponder before making a new product. We then draw it up and make a one-off of the product so we can test fit it on the car. Once we get the fitment and function that we need then we design a prototype. Once the prototype has been tested we start production on that part. This process can take weeks, months and for larger scale parts, sometimes years. To stay competitive we usually can fulfill that process in a couple months depending on the scale and demand of the product.
Here is a behind the scenes shot of you behind the scenes look at what our Agency Power control arms start out as.
They then go into the CNC mill and go through a similar process as the spacers you will see in the video below. We have two mills and two lathes. A mill produces products in a vertical fashion, where the lathe does things horizontally. What takes a mill a half page of code to process, it would take six pages of programming code for a lathe to figure out. We have manual machines as well to help make the smaller adjustments rather than coding in the small adjustment. Our mills take 15 minutes to do something that would take 3 hours manually. That is how we make our parts cost effective.
Once that hunk of steel goes through the CNC mill, it ends up like this. We are able to make roughly 60 of these in a day. This is where the demand of a new product comes into play. We have to forecast the demand of a product to know how many to pre-produce before the launch of a product. Here is what they look like after the first of the three step process.
Here are some more pictures of our R&D department.
This is a video we shot to show you on a smaller scale what our CNC machines can do. Usually there is water running and the door is closed. This is the process it takes to make an Agency Power Spacer.
